“The trees do not hold on to dead leaves but lose them in order to create room for new ones. We can learn from this, by letting go of the past and focusing on the now. We cannot change the past but we can make the present and future brighter and better not bitter.” ~ Kemi Sogunle
We all go painful periods in our lives. It could be from a broken relationship, from the death of a loved one, from a difficult job or childhood trauma. We often hold on to the painful memories than we do to the lessons those situations taught us. We allow our emotions, which may be partly illusions, lead us than push us to focus on becoming better, than remaining bitter.
Holding on to painful memories only lead to bitterness, strife, malice and anger that only hold us back from moving forward. This only makes us toxic, as all we can give to anyone around us, is the pain we have and not love.
By looking at trees shed dead leaves that crumble and have no life or breath in them, we can learn to let go of all dead things in our lives from painful memories knowing that they cannot make us grow stronger or wiser but can only derail us from striving and pushing forward to newness of life.
We must create room for new leaves of life and hold on the lessons from the past, knowing that we become stronger as we move forward. We cannot change the past; we can only handle the now and prepare ourselves for the future. Our dreams, our hopes and faith can come alive when as we strive and work to become the best version of us ever created to live, move and have our being. Let us learn to breathe life into ourselves. Let us show others we can overcome, let us refuse to be held back by pain or sorrow. The past no longer has a hold over us when we realize that the dead leaves (pain/memories) can be swept away. We can give room to new leaves of life and watch ourselves bloom and flourish as we move on to greater things ahead. Keep your faith and hold on. Your best is yet to come!
